About Me
I attended the JAX BDiSC program in January 2026. During my two weeks there, I learned how crucial it is to analyze and interpret data. Learning to use Python to create heatmaps of gene expression differences showed me the immense potential of genomics data to drive discovery.
As a researcher at Elon University, I study fibrosarcoma cells using oncolytic virotherapy. Understanding cancer genomics helps me see how gene expression in these cells impacts treatment. Learning about variant curation will let me research which genes cause fibrosarcoma. This knowledge will also help me understand how gene variants influence a person's risk of developing the disease.
This last one is particularly significant to me. My grandfather is a two-time survivor of localized prostate cancer. Understanding genomics may help me assess my own risk. Plus, expertise in cancer genomics will be a valuable skill if I choose to pursue graduate studies.
